The Military Recognition Banner Program within the City of Bradenton recognizes the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have served and sacrificed in defense of our nation to safeguard the freedoms enjoyed by all citizens.  This initiative was inspired by the aunt (Mrs. Heather Christie) of U.S. Army Specialist Nicholas Panipinto, a 20-year-old Bradenton resident, who honorably served his country as an infantryman with the 1st Cavalry Division. Panipinto, who tragically lost his life in November 2019 during a training exercise in South Korea when the armored vehicle he was operating overturned, continues to inspire efforts to honor all those who wear the uniform and to ensure their legacy is never forgotten.

The City of Bradenton, as the county seat of Manatee County—home to more than 40,000 veterans—is uniquely positioned to serve as a catalyst for broader community recognition and support of military service. This program will demonstrate the continued commitment to honoring those who have defended our nation and supporting the families who stand beside them. Each banner will display photograph(s), branch of service and periods of service of local military members and veterans throughout the City as a visible and enduring tribute, fostering community pride, historical awareness and gratitude for the contributions of our local heroes.

The City encourages residents, businesses and community organizations to nominate a Veteran for one of the 12 spots by completing an online application or downloading and completing a hard copy.

The first round of banners will be displayed before the Fourth of July along Manatee West, just beyond the 1st Street intersection towards town.

Let’s ensure the legacy of service and sacrifice is visibly preserved for generations to come.
