Purpose
Through Resolution R-25-045, the Opioid Abatement Coordinating Council (OACC) was established to be the County’s official opioid taskforce December 2025.
The OACC serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and has the following responsibilities:
- Reviews and assess funding priorities to ensure alignment with the abatement plan
- Recommend strategies to optimize the use and impact of available funds
- Promote principles of equity and inclusion in the development, selection, and implementation of funded programs and initiatives
- Review applications or proposals, as applicable, and provide funding recommendations to the BOCC
- Monitor and evaluate the performance and outcomes of funded programs to ensure accountability and effectiveness
- Facilitate collaboration and coordination among agencies and organizations engaged in opioid prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services
- Provide input and recommendations to the BOCC regarding public education and awareness initiatives related to opioid use, prevention, and recovery services
- Regularly reassess opioid abatement priorities each year to ensure alignment with emerging community needs, evolving best practices, and to identify new priority areas as they arise
Membership Requirements
The OACC is comprised of seven voting members:
- Drug Free Manatee/Nonprofit specializing in opioid use treatment and/or abatement or designee
- Manatee County Commissioner
- Manatee County Sherriff or designee
- Mayor of the City of Bradenton or designee
- Mayor of the City of Palmetto or designee
- Professor from an accredited college/university with expertise in opioid prevention, treatment, or recovery
- Representative with lived experience
