Health Care Advisory Board

Health Care Advisory Board

Applications are due October 13 at 5 p.m.

Applications are being accepted for five seats on the  Health Care Advisory Board, a volunteer group that evaluates, monitors and discusses the healthcare services in Manatee County and makes recommendations to the County Commission regarding the funding of healthcare services of Manatee County.

The vacancies are for the following seats:

  • mental health
  • healthcare
  • a practicing physician who received no more than one percent of his/her gross income from County-funded healthcare and
  • two representatives of uninsured consumers of County-funded healthcare
A resume or C.V. is also required for consideration for appointment to this advisory board. Please note, all information provided within applications will be made public. All applicants must complete the new form, even if they have applied previously since the application has been updated.

Eligibility

Employees, owners or voting board members of agencies that receive funding from Manatee County Government, or individuals who contract with agencies that receive County funding are ineligible to serve on the board with the exception of practicing physician who may receive no more than one percent of their gross income from county-funded healthcare.

Commitment

Applicants should be willing to meet a minimum of eight times per year on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 5-7 p.m. on the 9th Floor BCC Conference Room of the County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Avenue West. Other meetings may be scheduled as necessary.

Historic Preservation Board

Historic Preservation Board

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 25, for two positions on the Historic Preservation Board, a citizens advisory committee that makes decisions regarding Manatee County’s archaeologically, historically and aesthetically significant sites, districts and zones.

Eligibility

  • Must be registered voters in Manatee County
  • No particular expertise is required, but applicants with knowledge of archaeological, historical or architectural development or have deep concern for the preservation, development and enhancement of historic resources in the County are given additional consideration

Commitment

The Historic Preservation Board is composed of five volunteer members who are appointed by the County Commission for four-year terms. The group meets a minimum of four times a year in the First Floor Chambers of the Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.

The board’s responsibilities include: 

  • Encourage historical and archaeological preservation.
  • Identify historic buildings and sites and archaeological sites in Manatee County.
  • Encourage property owners to seek local historic landmark designation. 
  • Ensure appropriate preservation, restoration, renovation, development and adaptive reuse of historical buildings and archaeological sites.
  • Develop and maintain a system of survey and inventory of historic properties.

Planning Commission

Planning Commission

Applications will be accepted until Friday, September 25 for two seats on the Planning Commission, a citizens advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land use items.

The four-year terms for both seats are expiring and the incumbents are seeking to be re-appointed by the County Commission.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a registered voter in Manatee County.
  • Applicants with experience or training in planning, engineering, environmental science and the development industry may be given additional consideration for an appointment.
  • Planning Commission members cannot be employed by the County or serve as a member of another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.

Commitment

The Planning Commission is composed of seven members who are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for four-year terms.

The Planning Commission meets on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Honorable Patricia M. Glass Chambers, located on the First Floor of the Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.
