The Florida Department of Health works to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts. The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) was established in 1941 to provide public health services for residents within its 725 square mile jurisdiction. Serving approximately 400,000 residents from six sites, about 200 dedicated public health professionals who perform the core public health functions including environmental health, vital records, epidemiology, communicable disease control, emergency preparedness and response, health education, nutrition services, immunizations, and clinical services of public health importance.
