Athletic Sports Fields Best Management Practices Training

Overview

Athletic Sports Fields Best Management Practices Training

The Best Management Practices (BMPs) focus on maintaining high-quality playing surfaces while protecting Florida’s water resources from nutrient runoff and leaching.

  • Nutrient Management: Staff are required to follow specific fertilization rules, such as those established by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
  • Irrigation Efficiency: Includes practices for water conservation and managing soil moisture to prevent excessive drainage into groundwater.
  • Soil Testing: Managers are encouraged to perform regular soil tests (e.g., Mehlich-3) to determine actual nutrient needs rather than applying fertilizer on a set schedule.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Prioritizes non-chemical methods for controlling pests and diseases before relying on pesticides.
