Combat operation in Europe ended May 8, 1945. In honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory over Europe, the Republic of France will award the Knight of the Legion to World War II Platoon Sergeant John Skeen. on May 8, 2025.

The event will be held at the Lakewood Ranch – Sarasota Elks #2855, 4602 Lena Road, Bradenton. Door will open at noon and the ceremony will start at 12:58 p.m.

Major General Hartell, USMC Retired, Director of Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is the guest speaker. The Office of the French Consul will bestow the award on behalf of the people and the Republic of France.
