Freshwater Macroinvertebrate Study
Join us for an immersive experience where you'll learn how to collect and identify small freshwater creatures, unlocking vital insights into the overall health of a pond. Discover the fascinating world of dragonflies, damselflies, and other aquatic insects, fish, and mollusks. Through hands-on activities, participants will better understand the delicate balance within these ecosystems and how human actions impact them. Program suitable for children ages 11 to 14 years old and their families. Participants should bring a water bottle and wear clothing and shoes that can get wet. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes, no flip-flops. Students will be wading in a freshwater pond to a depth that they are comfortable with, but no deeper than their waist. You may wish to bring a picnic lunch or a snack to enjoy at the pavilion after the program. Restrooms and a water fountain are available on site. Program sponsored by Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast in partnership with Manatee County. Register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/652267107477
