Eligibility Services Benefit Programs

Manatee County Eligibility Services Section provides a host of services for the economically disadvantaged. Qualified recipients may receive assistance with prescriptions, ambulance fees, and indigent burial.

Ambulance Fee Payment Assistance

Provides assistance with Ambulance fees from Manatee County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Who is Eligible:

Assistance is based on a sliding fee scale for Manatee County residents with incomes less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Burial Assistance

The indigent burial program provides assistance with cremation services.

In all instances, cremation shall be the preferred method of disposition. However, should the family of the deceased wish for burial and already has a plot, burial assistance may be available.

Who is Eligible:

An individual whose death occurs in Manatee County who has no known advance directives, authorized representative, or next of kin, willing and able to make final disposition of the remains of the deceased person.

Prescription Assistance

Provides assistance with prescriptions for Manatee County residents to reduce the incidence of major medical care or hospitalization. 

Who is Eligible:

  • Residents ages 18 and over with incomes less than 100% of the Federal Poverty Level.
  • Residents ages 60 and over with incomes less than 125% of the Federal Poverty Level.
  • Applicant must be completely uninsured and provide the following documentation to determine eligibility:
    • 2 Proofs of Residency (something recent and official that has the applicant’s name and address on it)
    • Income: Last 3 months of income for eligible household members (spouse and minors.) For wages, pay stubs are utilized; for Social Security income, an award letter for the current year must be presented. (If applicant does not have an income source, we require a letter of support showing how much a month it costs to assist the applicant with basic needs.)
    • Proof of current Food Stamp amount, if receiving assistance
    • Last 3 months of bank statements
    • Value of any assets (other than one home and one vehicle.) The asset value must meet the same poverty levels as listed above.
  • Service: Allows for applicants deemed eligible to have prescriptions filled at participating pharmacies for 6 months. Prescriptions must be from a Manatee County physician.

Note: This is a program of last resort. Any other available prescription assistance shall be utilized and exhausted prior to an eligible recipient receiving assistance.  Residents are eligible for six months.
