Veteran Services remembers Maple

Manatee County Veterans Services is saddened to announce the passing of Maple, Support Specialist and a working service dog. Maple was 11 years old.

Maple, Veteran Services service animal

Maple was a rescue from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. She had the great fortune of becoming a member of the Enders family, and working alongside Todd Enders, a Manatee County Veterans Service Counselor.

Officially Enders’ service animal and endlessly devoted to him, Maple supported the entire office as well as many clients. She was an unofficial ambassador for the office and appears on office banners and signs. Although wary of women, she was patient with everyone and demanded and accepted treats as her due. She was protective of the office and, while at lunch, would frequently woof softly at anyone approaching the front door.

Maple loved walks, bacon and steak, taking treats and leaving them around the office, and full-body scratches. But her greatest loves were Todd and Jill Enders. (She also played with and tolerated her fur brother, Howie.)

Her loss will be felt by all who knew her. Semper Fortis Maple.
