The 4.5-acre property is adjacent to the 530-acre Rye Preserve and surrounds the historic Rye Cemetery.  The hardwood forest will “buffer” the small cemetery and adjacent nature trail from future development. The rare, high-quality habitat is home to gopher tortoises, a protected species. Rye Branch passes through the northwest corner of the property. The Rye Nature Center at Rye Preserve tells the story of the Town of Rye (a pioneer village founded by individuals interred in the cemetery), the surrounding ecosystem and the unique animals that live there. The land is being incorporated into Rye Preserve.  No capital improvements are planned.
