Purchased August 2024-
The Crane Park Addition adds 13 acres to the north side of the existing Crane Park in Myakka City. Roughly half of the property is open forest that has been grazed by cattle and half of the property is wetland. Crane Park is along the banks of the Myakka River and is unfortunately closed during regular seasonal flooding. The "addition" provides higher ground onto which areas of passive recreational use can be shifted. The property is within the Florida Wildlife Corridor and an FDEP Impaired Water Quality Basin. The expanded park will be managed by the Sports & Leisure Services and Property Management Departments. The Myakka Riverbanks and adjacent wetlands have potential for restoration to improve water quality and wildlife habitat in the future.
