Pine Needle Basket Weaving
Indigenous and African American cultures have woven pine needles and other natural fibers for generations. Discover the cultural history and art of pine needle basket weaving in this hands-on crafting program. Participants will learn how to collect, prepare, and weave pine needles into beautiful, functional containers. This unique craft fosters creativity, patience, and an appreciation for sustainable, nature-inspired art. Join us to cultivate a timeless skill and create your own pine needle basket - a great holiday gift for family and friends! Program suitable for all ages. Patience, dexterity, and strength in the fingers and hands are required to weave the pine needles tightly. A parent or guardian must stay on-site to assist and supervise their child(ren) for the duration of the program. All crafting materials will be provided, and participants will leave with materials to finish their baskets at home. Please bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate for the weather. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes, no flip-flops. Restrooms and a water fountain are available on site.
