From the Ground Up: Building Sustainable Pastures for Healthy Livestock
The purpose of this educational program is to deliver research based information to cattle producers that enhances the quality of lives and encourages profitability and sustainability. Maintaining Best Management Practices allows beef cattle operators to preserve water quality while complying with government regulation. The practice of grazing has been identified as positively impacting native ranges by reducing invasive vegetation and therefore, increasing wildlife habitats. This in turn produces a symbiotic relationship between wildlife and livestock. Through the course of the day participants will hear from faculty on soil health, planting, harvesting, appropriate forage varieties and management, weed control, and forage nutrition. The implementation of behavior changes from this program can improve the efficiency of a grazing operation while maintaining Best Management Practices which will allow for compliance with regulation agencies, saving producers money and creating a sustainable environment for both cattle and wildlife.
