Mango Languages

• Mango is a self-paced online language-learning system that uses real-life situations and actual conversations to more effectively teach a new language.

• Choose from languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian, and more!  

through the app:

1. In the app store on your iOS or Android device, search for Mango Languages. Install and open the free app. 

2.  Tap the blue Start Learning button. Pick a language by scrolling through the list or search for a language using the search bar.

3. You can continue to use the app as a guest or tap the Skip to Sign Up button in the upper right. 

4. Enter your email address and create a password. 

5. To unlock the library's subscription, tap the Search button next to Find Free Mango. Tap Search Nearby or enter the city or zip code in the search bar. 

6. Tap Manatee County Public Library System and enter your library card number. Tap Access mango, then View Unlocked Content to continue with the lesson. 

through a web browser:

1. Go to the library's website and click on the orange Research & Learning button and then on the Learn a Language button. 

2. You are not required to create a profile but can do so by selecting Sign Up under the blue Log In button. Creating a profile allows you to save and track progress through the language courses. If you do not wish to create a profile, you can click the Use Mango as a Guest button to continue. 

3. Finally select the language you want to learn. Scroll down to view popular languages on Mango or all languages available or search for a language using the Search box. 

1. When you reach your chosen language’s web page, all the available courses for that language will be displayed as units divided into chapters. Click on the lesson you wish to begin or click the Start Learning button.

2. If you have some prior knowledge with the language and do not wish to start at the beginning, you can take a Placement Test that will place your skills and show you where to begin. On the website, this can be found on the left-hand side, underneath the Start Learning and Daily Review box. On the app it can be found at the top of the screen underneath the language icon. 

3. To view your progress so far, click your username or tap the menu button, in the top right corner, and choose "Activity". Please note your progress can only be saved by creating a profile.

4. You can switch to a different language by selecting “Change Language” under your username or clicking the language icon/name in the upper left.

5. Click Tools at the top of the page to use the Translate feature which allows you to translate a word or phrase from one language to another. 

6. Additional features in the app include study reminders and the ability to delete downloaded data. Tap the menu icon in the upper right to access these features.
