History Reference Center

What is it?

  • History Reference Center, powered by EBSCOhost, features full text for more than 1,620 reference books, encyclopedias, and non-fiction books as well as over 150 history periodicals from leading history publishers.

  • The database also contains nearly 57,000 historical documents, 77,000 biographies, 37,000 historical photos and maps, and more than 80 hours of historical video on topics such as the American Civil War, military history, the Wild West, and more.

Getting Started

Access History Reference Center through any web browser:

  1. Go to the library’s website and click on the orange Research & Learning button and then on the Articles, Research & Information button.

  2. Click on History & Social Sciences and then on the History Reference Center link. You will be prompted to log in with your Patron ID # (back of card) and PIN number. 

Using History Reference Center

  1. Use History Reference Center by 1) typing in your query in the Basic Search field, 2) choosing Advanced Search for more options, or 3) browsing the list of available subjects or publications using the buttons in the upper left.

  2. Basic Search allows you to enter a word or phrase. Search suggestions will appear as you begin to type your term(s). Advanced Search gives you options to limit your search by such factors as document type, publication, or published date. Images/Video, in the upper left, lets you limit your search by different types, including black and white photos, graphs, maps, and photos with people.

  3. Click on an item in your results list to view the record. The record will display the publication information. Click PDF or HTML Full text on the left-hand side of the page to begin reading the article.

  4. Use the Tools Menu on the right-hand side of the page to print, email, or save the article. You can also use the Cite feature to create a citation using multiple citation styles.

  5. In order to use the “Add to Folder” and “Create Note” functions to save information for access at another time, you must register for an account or sign into EBSCOhost with a Google Account by clicking Sign-In at the top of the page.
