Maintaining Your Water Meter

Maintaining Access to Your Water Meter

Manatee County staff reads water meters monthly to ensure accurate billing and to perform essential services such as turning water on and off, repairing, or replacing meters. To assist with this process, it is crucial to keep the area around your water meter box free from obstructions.

Landscaping Around the Meter Box

  • Limit landscaping around your water meter box to maintain easy access.
  • Bushes, trees, shrubs, and other vegetation placed over or around the water meter can hinder staff from performing necessary tasks.
  • Established landscaping near the meter box should be trimmed back to prevent overgrowth.

Keeping the Meter Area Clear

  • The area around the meter should remain free of shrubbery, ornamental trees, and low-growing bushes.
  • Do not bury the water meter or place anything on top of it, including lawn ornaments, rocks, or mulch.
  • Avoid parking vehicles or trailers on top of the meter, as this can obstruct access.

Notifications About Access

If a Meter Technician observes that the area around your meter has become overgrown or inaccessible, you may receive a reminder by mail about the access requirements. Maintaining a clear area around the meter helps ensure timely and efficient service.
