MANATEE COUNTY, FL (March 18, 2016) – The 8th Annual Robinson Preserve 5K Twilight Run hosted by Fit2Run is next week and this year features a new 10K option. The run will benefit Feeding Empty Little Tummies (FELT) of Manatee County and Robinson Preserve.

The race begins at 6:30 p.m. at Robinson Preserve, 1704 99th St. NW, Bradenton. Last year’s event hosted over 1,500 adults and children and is expected to reach 2,000 attendees this year making this run the largest timed 5K & 10K in Manatee County.

The event is one of the most scenic race courses in Florida and leaves the runners breathless. The chip-timed race follows a 3.1- and 6.2-mile course over shell trails and eight bridges winding through mangroves and past jumping fish, showcasing vistas of Tampa Bay then the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and finishing at the restored historical Valentine House.

“It is places like this that people can get back in touch with nature,” said Charlie Hunsicker, Manatee’s Parks and Natural Resources Director.

There will be chip-timed 5K & 10K runs, a one-mile pet friendly walk, and Kid’s Dashes for the children.  Ages 3 to 4 run 100 meters; ages 5 to 6 run 200 meters; ages 7 to 9 run 400 meters; and the 10 to 12 yrs run 800 meters. The top three children in each age category will receive crafted finisher medals and trophies.

The 5K & 10K runners are treated to a dry fit training shirt featuring the Robinson Preserve Bald Eagle logo. Top runners in their categories will win cash awards; runners placing in their categories receive hand-crafted tiles. All participants will be treated to a post-race party with food and drinks.

Proceeds obtained from the Robinson Preserve 5K Race benefit FELT ‘Feeding Empty Little Tummies’ a back pack program designed to meet the needs of Manatee County’s homeless children’ during the weekends, and Robinson Preserve for preserve development and maintenance.
