Another world-renowned author to speak at benefit for Manatee Library System

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Aug. 25, 2015) – On Sept. 15, nine months after “An Evening with Stephen King” raised more than $100,000 for the Manatee County Public Library System, the Manatee Library Foundation will announce an even bigger event to benefit Manatee’s library system.

Manatee Library Foundation, Inc. will announce the second world famous author in as many years during a noon Sept. 15 press conference at Central Library. State Rep. Jim Boyd and his wife Sandy will again be honorary chairs for the Jan. 19, 2016 event. Boyd was recently named a 2015 Library Champion by the Tampa Bay Library Consortium.

Foundation president Jane Plitt said this year’s speaker comes as a direct result of King’s continued interest in Manatee’s public Library system.

“Mr. King was beyond gracious last year, and he went so far as to offer help in arranging a second marquee speaker,” Plitt said. “We’re so delighted with King’s efforts and the whole area is going to be thrilled with the announcement to come.”

“An Evening with Stephen King” in January raised more than $100,000 to help overhaul the Library System’s online operating system, in conjunction with  $150,000 from Manatee County Government. The new system goes into operation on Oct. 1.

“The hard work and dedication of the Library Foundation to supplement funds to the Manatee County Public Library System has taken their efforts of an annual friend raiser luncheon to an unprecedented literary event,” said Cheri Coryea, Director of Neighborhood Services.  “The County is forever grateful for their ongoing efforts.”

Additional details about the January event, the marquee speaker, sponsorship and additional ticket opportunities will be announced at the Sept. 15 press conference. Attending media are asked to arrive by 11:45 a.m., since the press conference will begin promptly at noon.
