Prizes Announced for This Year's Fashion Show

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (March 7, 2017) – Manatee County Public Libraries announced today the prizes for their Fourth Annual Teen Recycled Fashion Show taking place on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Downtown Central Library.


Keep Manatee Beautiful, one of Manatee Libraries’ collaborators on this program, has provided the following generous prizes:


  •  First Place: Echo & $50 Gift Card
  •  Second Place: Google Home
  • Third Place: $50.00 Gift Card 

A prize also will be presented to the contestant with the best accessory.


 Contestants of the popular fashion show annual event make their own original fashions using recycled or repurposed materials and present their creations on the runway in front of a live audience where a panel of judges select a winner based on creativity, presentation and use of recycled materials. A contestant must be no younger than 13 and no older than 19 and can submit as an individual or as part of a group. A contestant may model his/her own creation or find a model to wear the piece. The day includes hair styling and makeup done for free for contestants and their models. Downtown Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard West, Bradenton, 34205 (along Riverwalk).


Pre-show workshops will be held at Downtown Central Library’s newly designated creative lab (Area 52) for anyone who would like to work on a design. Area 52 is equipped with a specialized sewing machine for using more durable materials, such as plastic. Area 52 also has a Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine, allowing for quick cutting of over 100 different materials. Sewing workshops will be held on March 13 & 27, from 5 to 8 PM. In addition to these workshops, Area 52 offers open times, every weekday after school until library close.


Other library locations are planning pre-show related events. This includes Island Library which will be holding a paper jewelry class on Saturday, March 18, from 2 to 3 PM. And Braden River Library will be conducting an Accessories workshop, sponsored by the Friends of Braden River, on Thursday, March 30, from 6 to 7:15 PM. All materials will be provided.
