Downtown Library to Help Prepare Job Seekers for Annual Hiring Fair Through Goodwill Job Connection Classes

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (August 12, 2016) – Manatee County Public Libraries’ annual “Ready. Set. Job.” Hiring Fair is set for Monday, September 12, from 1 to 4 PM, at Downtown Central Library. Up to 30 employers and agencies will be on hand to discuss potential opportunities with job seekers.

Last year’s hiring fair brought 400 job seekers, of which 40 percent had interviews, based on surveys and company feedback.

As part of the “Ready” portion of this annual program, now in its fourth year, Downtown Library will be offering two classes presented by Goodwill Job Connection: Resume Preparation on Monday, August 22, and Job Readiness on Monday, August 29. Both classes are from 2 to 3 PM.

Ericka Dow, Information Resources Librarian, said Downtown Library used to hold these classes regularly, and they decided to bring them back to try to prepare a bigger group of people for the workforce.

“Not only does the library hope to make a broader impact on local employment by hosting the Hiring Fair, we also want to help our customers to be prepared for the interviewing and hiring process by offering Resume and Job Readiness workshops, offering extended use computers for job searching at all library locations and providing access to career and vocational testing preparation through Learning Express,” said Dow.

Job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes or a file on a USB drive and dress their best to meet with representatives from approximately 30 local companies, manufacturers, employment agencies and community agencies, including Bright House Networks, Manatee County Government, Mr. Sparky and Tidewell. Brief resume consultations also will be made available.

Downtown Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard West, Bradenton 34205, and the event will take place in the First Floor Auditorium and Second Floor lounge.
