Authorization for the Chairman to sign grant agreement in the amount of $3,000 with Restore America's Estuaries (grantor) and adoption of Budget Resolution B-16-085 amending the annual budget for Manatee County Florida for fiscal year 2016.
Manatee County's Parks and Natural Resources Department has received a small grant for $3,000 from Restore America's Estuaries to support a special event in celebration of National Estuaries Week. Funding will be used toward purchase of native plants and materials for this special event to take place at the Robinson Preserve Expansion on Saturday, September 24, from 9 am to 1 pm. During the event, 75 volunteers will work to install native plants. After the planting, volunteers will have the opportunity to learn more about the estuary, its wildlife and plants, and usefulness to humans. Volunteers will then participate in activities and demonstrations, and receive free educational handouts to help teach about the estuary.
Additional partners in the event include Sarasota Bay Estuary Program and Tampa Bay Estuary Program. These two partners will be providing additional components such as food for the volunteers and additional plants, making the project a multi stakeholder partnership.
Adoption of Budget Resolution B-16-085 is requested.
