Action Requested

Authorization for Chairman to execute a Utility Work by Highway Contractor Agreement, Resolution R-14-163, and FDOT Memorandum of Agreement for the construction of certain utilities located along US 301 between CR 675 and Moccasin Wallow Road.

Enabling/Regulating Authority

State Statute: 337.403 Requires the County to take action at its own expense to move its utilities upon demand from FDOT.

Background Discussion
  • FDOT intends to improve a portion of US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road.
  • The Board of County Commissioners previously approved an Agreement for the Utility Design Services on June 18, 2013.
  • Due to County owned utilities in the limits of the project, the County must relocate, at its own expense, certain utilities.
  • To facilitate coordination with the FDOT work, the County desires to have the FDOT contractor perform the construction of the County's utility relocations.
  • FDOT requests execution of this agreement by October 21, 2014, to facilitate timely contractual obligations.
  • The initial estimate of the cost of the utility work is $650,000, plus a two percent (2%) administrative fee.
  • A 10% construction contingency is also required.
  • By executing the Agreement, the BCC acknowledges and accepts its terms and conditions applicable to the relocation work, and agrees it is at the sole expense of the County.
