Background Discussion
The Florida Public Transit Association is comprised of transit agency staff across the State of Florida. Annually, member organizations compete with respect to public transit operations and fleet preventative maintenance "best practices" and diagnostic skills. The State Bus Rodeo is a unique opportunity for transit operators and fleet maintenance teams to engage with other transit professionals in a friendly, yet competitive setting. The Rodeo competition is comprised of operational skills that replicate real world service delivery including: Pre-trip vehicle inspections, system safety requirements, and on-street operational skills. The fleet portion of the rodeo tests the overall knowledge, technical competency, and diagnostic skills for the fleet maintenance disciplines. The Rodeo event also provides an important networking opportunity and the sharing of industry " best practices", including new/innovative approaches for both transit services delivery and preventative maintenance programs.
