Motion to adopt Proclamation designating May 19-25, 2013, as "Emergency Medical Services Week" in Manatee County.
Conforms with section 2, pages 1-11 of the Manatee County Comprehensive Plan: Protect the public health, safety, and welfare.
Proclaimed nationwide, Emergency Medical Service is a vital public service.
Manatee County Emergency Medical Services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Emergency medical professionals provide medical care to victims of sudden, life-threatening injuries and illnesses, often under stressful conditions and in high-risk situations.
Emergency medical personnel also provide education, assessment, prevention, and referral services.
Members of EMS teams engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.
It is appropriate to recognize the value and accomplishments of EMS providers by designating May 19-25, 2013, as Emergency Medical Services Week.
