Bad Debt Write off

Authorization and approval for the write off of bad debt totaling $2705.74 from terminated employees.
Florida State Statute 17.041 requires the Board of County Commissioners approval of bad debt write off.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court requests departments to submit uncollectible items to the Board for write off.
The Employee Health Benefits Division of Human Resources makes every attempt to collect debts owed by terminated employees.
Whereas the majority of debts are collected, there are on occasion after several attempts to collect fail, that the debt must be written off. Write-offs are not debt forgiveness, but a standard accounting practice which local governments use to remove these account types. The County is not waiving the right to collect the fees and can continue to try to recoup any unpaid balances.
The names and amounts of uncollectible debts are attached below.
