Adoption of Resolution R-17-059 authorizing the submission of the Manatee County Library Long Range Plan 2017-18 to 2019-20 to the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services, for receipt of State Aid grants.
Florida Statute 257
The Manatee County Libraries have become a vital and enriching part of the community. It actively nurtures imagination, promotes lifelong learning, and serves as an engaged partner with local organizations. Recognizing these successful feats, the Florida Library Association (FLA) named the Manatee County Libraries as "Library of the Year" for 2016 and Library Services Manager Ava Ehde was recently honored as the FLA outstanding "Librarian of the Year."
Since 1971, Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services, has provided annual operating grants to libraries under the provision of Florida Statute 257. The amount of State Aid is based on the amount of local expenditures, less any state and federal funds from the second previous year, and acts as the core of the materials budget.
Because the Manatee County Libraries are nearing the end of its previous 2012-2017 Long Range Plan, it gathered input from staff, community leaders, and library support groups to include in the updated Long Range Plan for continued State Aid funding. This streamlined Long Range Plan targets customer service and marketing efforts while ensuring the library's adherence to American Library Association guidelines and service to the community. The overarching themes include: providing stellar customer service; advancing community cohesion, education, and equity by engaging with customers and community partners; and developing human and tangible resources.
The Library Board of Trustees approved this 2017-18 to 2019-20 Long Range Plan at its May 18, 2017, regular meeting.
Upon approval of the required Long Range Plan by the Board of County Commissioners and County Administrator, this document will be sent to the State for approval.
