Background Discussion

Mayor Jim Brown, Town of Longboat Key, has requested a letter of support from the County Commission to be sent to Governor Rick Scott asking him to veto HB537 due to its adverse impacts on the Town.  The Mayor and staff believe that if signed, HB537 will remove a local government's ability to hold referenda on growth related issues. The bill threatens to nullify a provision in the Town Charter about a referenda requirement relating to density increases.  The attached correspondence to the Governor and to Chairman Bustle further explain their rationale.
