Adopt Moccasin Wallow Road at Ellenton-Gillette Road intersection improvements as Manatee County's second priority for 2014 Transportation Regional Incentive Program grant requests.
On March 25, 2014, the Board adopted the County's 2014 project priority and grant requests. The list included Cortez Road at 43rd Street West intersection as the County's only Transportation Regional Incentive Program (TRIP) project priority. On June 16, 2014, Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) representatives met with regional counterparts to prioritize 2014 projects. Following discussion at the coordination meeting, the MPO requested Manatee County staff submit an additional TRIP project. Therefore, this agenda item is to inform the Board of the request and to seek Board adoption of a second TRIP project priority.
Based on review of eligible projects and estimated funding, staff recommend approval of a Moccasin Wallow-Road at Ellenton-Gillette Road intersection improvement as the TRIP project. The proposed improvement is intended to improve capacity and operations at the intersection by providing a traffic signal and additional turn lanes. Moccasin Wallow Road is on the adopted map of regional roadways, and therefore, the intersection improvement is eligible. The estimated cost is $1,500,000, and based on TRIP's fifty percent local match requirement, $750,000 would be provided from the TRIP grant and $750,000 would be provided by the County.
