Enabling/Regulating Authority
Ordinance 82-15, establishing the Historical Commission, later codified as Section 2-2-76.

Background Discussion
  • Pursuant to Ordinance 82-15, later codified as Section 2-2-76, which established the Historical Commission, members shall be nominated by the Historical Commission and confirmed and appointed by the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners (BCC). The purpose of the Historical Commission is to collect, read, and preserve historical material related to Manatee County.
  • A nomination committee of the Historical Commission made the following recommendations which were approved by the Historical Commission: Bridgette Halliburton; Catherine Ferrer; and Anne Castelina.
  • The nominating committee considers persons active within the commission, and there is no formal application process for membership on the commission. The Historical Commission had not received any other applications or inquiries.
  • The term of office for Bridgette Halliburton, Catherine Ferrer, and Anne Castelina begins January 1, 2015, until December 31, 2018, in seats 10, 11, and 12, as dictated by Section 2-2-76. Summary information is noted below:
    • Bridgette Halliburton: Former AmeriCorps-Vista Project Leader and now works for the Red Cross. Bridgette earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and is a licensed Massage Therapist. She was born and raised in Bradenton and is the fourth generation of her family to live in Manatee County.
    • Catherine Ferrer: A proud New College alum, Catherine has lived in the Bradenton area for 15 years. She has over ten years of experience working in nonprofits including SCOPE, Manatee County Habitat for Humanity, Realize Bradenton, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast. She currently manages the fundraising, marketing, and public relations for Suncoast Community Capital.
    • Anne Castelina: An avid historian and former interpreter for the National Parks Service for 12 years. Formerly involved with training for the NPS for four years, and a Park Superintendent for 16 years. Anne served on the original Historical Commission, which established Manatee Village Historical Park, and is  interested in serving again and helping maintain and enhance the Village.
