Background Discussion

Notice has been received that Manatee County is eligible for a FFY 2015 Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Grant in the amount of $102,929.  This funding coincides with the time period October 1, 2015, through September 30, 2016.

These JAG funds are recurring, although funding amounts may differ each year.  This year’s amount has decreased by $12,541 over last year’s amount. No grant match is required.

Following discussion at its meeting on March 18, 2015, the Public Safety Coordinating Council (PSCC) recommended Manatee County to apply for the Federal JAG to assist participants in the Manatee County Drug Court Program. JAG funds will be combined with a portion of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (State) JAG to continue contractual services with Manatee Glens Corporation until September 30, 2016.  The contract provides addiction counseling and ancillary services to Drug Court participants.

Opportunity for public comment regarding this grant was provided during the PSCC meeting on March 18, 2015, and through inclusion of this item on the Board's meeting agenda today, satisfying a grant requirement for public comment before grant submission.  Deadline for grant submission is June 26, 2015.
