Action Requested

Authorization to waive the County Landfill tipping fees in the amount of approximately $18,300.00 by permitting the contractor for the St. Stephens (McLewis Bayou) Stormwater Maintenance Discharge Project to haul the sediment from St. Stephens (McLewis Bayou) to the County Landfill for use as daily cover material which will offset purchase and use of other daily cover purchased annually by Landfill Operations.

Enabling/Regulating Authority
Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan and Solid Waste Franchise Agreement.

Background Discussion
  • August 24, 2012, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approved a Pilot Stormwater Discharge Maintenance Program.  The program objective is to clean sediment at each of the stormwater outfall pipes discharging into any public navigational channel.
  • The specs and plans for St. Stephens (McLewis Bayou) are currently in Purchasing to be advertised.  It is anticipated that approximately 300 cubic yards of sediment will be removed.  This sediment will be dewatered in order to pass the paint filter test before transporting to the Landfill.
