Action Requested
Adopt Resolution R-17-086 accepting a state grant award from the State of Florida, Division of Emergency Management, for the period of July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018, in the amount of $115,806, and authorizing the Chairman, or in their absence the Vice Chairman, to execute all related documents; and adopt Resolution B-17-061 amending the annual budget for Manatee County, Florida, for FY2016-2017.

Background Discussion
  • This is an annual, non-match State grant. The Emergency Management, Preparedness and Assistance Trust Fund was established by the 1993 Florida Legislature to assist local Emergency Management agencies and programs with funds made available through the $2.00 surcharges on homeowners' insurance policies and $4.00 for business policies.
  • This is the twenty-fourth year funding has been provided.
  • The EMPA will fund half of the cost for two full-time Emergency Management Officers' salaries and benefits. The remaining funds will be utilized to support the Emergency Management program.
  • The scope of work to be accomplished includes updating the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, supporting emergency management training classes, development and execution of an annual EOC exercise, and public outreach presentations on emergency management subjects.
