Background Discussion

The National Association of Counties (NACo) encourages counties to participate in National County Government Month and recognizes those counties that sponsor outstanding programs to reach out and educate citizens about county government during the month of April.

As part of NACo's 2013 National County Government Month Award program, Manatee County was awarded with a First Place Prize (Suburban County Category) for the National County Government Month Celebration Smart Justice Showcase.   This showcase was hosted by the County on April 24, 2013, on the front lawn of the Historic Courthouse, with displays highlighting community contributions to a safer Manatee.

Throughout the month of April, Smart Justice Month, the County featured public safety and wellness tips, which were highlighted on the County's website.  The month-long event highlighted Manatee County Government's commitment to promoting a safe and healthy community.

Brenda Rogers, Community Services Director, has led County Government Month events over the past three years when Manatee County has been recognized with first-place finishes for its County Government Month efforts.
