Background Discussion

The 2016 AHCA Partnership Grant Award of $361,323.94 is being used as “start-up” funds to develop and implement a new patient care model for the citizens of Manatee County.

The Community Paramedicine program provides a focus on medically vulnerable population(s) with an attempt to redirect clients to appropriate resources as an alternative to the emergency department, thus decreasing healthcare costs while providing all program patients with the right treatment, the right resource(s), at the right time.

The Board of County Commissioners of Manatee County recently approved Resolution R-16-106 (implementation and startup of a Community Paramedicine Program) which included providing the services as specified in Attachment 1 of the contract MA-400. 

Manatee County Department of Public Safety currently has an existing employment contract in place with Medical Director David Nonell, M.D., who has provided quality services since 1989 and continues to be a qualified asset.

It is the intent of the County to expand the scope of services currently provided as described in Attachment I of the contract MA-400; which requires a Medical Director be provided a flat monthly rate of $1,200.00 to provide as-needed Community Paramedic Program support.

An Amendment to the medical director contract has been completed to reflect the additional flat monthly rate as required by Section B-1-2 of Attachment 1 of the AHCA Grant Contract MA-400 for Medical Director oversight to the Community Paramedic Program.
