Remy, Criminal Justice Policy Coordinator Action Requested Accept letters of appointment to the Public Safety Coordinating Council for Judge Lon Arend - Circuit Court; Judge Heather Doyle - County Court. Approve the appointment of the State Probation Circuit Administrator, or a member designated by the State Probation Circuit Administrator, to be appointed to a 4-year term, effective October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2024. Approve the appointment of the Director of any County Probation or Pre-Trial Intervention Program, to be appointed to a 4-year term, effective October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2024. Approve the appointment of the director of a local substance abuse treatment program, or a member designated by the director, to be appointed to a 4-year term, effective October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2024, specifically, Centerstone. Approve the appointment of representatives from county and state jobs programs and other community groups who work with offenders and victims, appointed by the chairperson of the Board of County Commissioners to 4-year terms, October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2024, specifically, the Bradenton Police Department and Manatee County Drug Court. Enabling/Regulating Authority Florida Statute 951.26 Resolution R-12-212 Background Discussion The Public Safety Coordinating Council is established by legislative action under Florida Statute 951.26. The Chair of the Board of County Commissioners appoints the Commission representative. Additionally, Section 951.26 and Resolution R-12-212 allow the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners to appoint representatives from county and state job programs and other community groups who work with offenders and victims. Every seat is permanent in nature with the possible exception of the very last category, (k) Representatives from county and state jobs programs and other community groups who work with offenders and victims, appointed by the chairperson of the board of county commissioners to 4-year terms. This category is not position-specific but requires appointments by the chair of the county commission every 4 years. The attached matrix lists all Public Safety Coordinating Council members. Those individuals whose names are highlighted will be appointed by this action (Stephanie Ditroia for State Probation Administrator, Jennifer Burgh for County Probation, Melissa Larkin-Skinner for Centerstone; Alfred James for Drug Court; and Melanie Bevan, for the Bradenton Police Department).
