Background Discussion
- In late 2019 it was brought to staff’s attention that the three (3) Coastal Maps, Coastal High Hazard Area-CHHA, Coastal Evacuation Area-CEA, and Coastal Planning Area-CPA, were not formally adopted in 2016/2017 following the new data from the storm surge model known as the SLOSH MODEL: Sea, Lake, and Overland Surges from Hurricanes.
- On May 12, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Plan Amendment 19-03/Ordinance 20-04 to update the boundaries of the Coastal High Hazard Area (CHHA) Overlay District.
- The methodologies and standard operating procedures contained within the Coastal Mapping Administrative Procedures Manual were followed in preparing the CHHA, CEA, and CPA maps following the 2016 SLOSH model data.
- Adopting the Coastal Mapping Administrative Procedures Manual will allow staff to bring the 2016/2017 CEA and CPA maps to the Planning Commission (December 2020) and the Board of County Commissioners (January 2021) for formal adoption.
- Adopting the manual will also facilitate implementation of future revisions to the maps (administratively) based on the best available data presented by the National Hurricane Center.
