Authorization to allow first responders working in Manatee County to have fees waived when using county operated pools during normal business hours for the purpose of maintaining their swimming skills.
The Parks and Natural Resources Department (PNRD) recently received a request from the West Manatee Fire Rescue District to utilize the G.T. Bray Aquatic Center, with fees waived, so their firefighters who have been trained as rescue swimmers can maintain their swimming proficiency.
In past years, first responders were allowed to use the pool at G.T. Bray and fees were waived. PNRD would like to make available all county operated pools, during normal business hours and when not in conflict with other programming, to all first responders in Manatee County. Staff recommends the Board authorize fees to be waived for these organizations/individuals who provide a vital service to our community and its visitors.
Upon approval, staff will develop and initiate procedures to check first responder identifications when signing into pool facilities.
