Background Discussion
The function of Food Banks is ever evolving to meet the needs of the under served, elderly, home bound, homeless, and unemployed/underemployed adults and children in Manatee County.  Across the country, communities struggle with food deficiencies.
Food Banks and Pantry operations vary and take place in churches, store fronts, community centers, vacant lots, and non-profit agencies. The food banks are operated by dedicated staff and volunteers.

Food pantries across Manatee County are experiencing changes in the way people present to them for assistance.  Additionally, with local changes in the Food Bank leadership, smaller food banks are concerned that they may not be able to adapt to a new system that places a higher reliance on transporting food and changing availability.

The United Way Suncoast and Manatee Community Foundation have donors that seek to be connected and support financial contributions that stock the shelves of the food banks.

We've asked both Meals on Wheels Plus and Feeding Tampa Bay representatives to join us for an open dialog about the transitions taking place in the local area so we can learn about the changing environment of Food Banking.

The work session will allow smaller dependent food banks and pantries to provide important feed back about the impact of the change in food bank operations and distribution.
