Authorization to repay $131,390.61 to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for their cost-shared portion of payment received from the U.S. Army Corps.
On August 4, 1992, Manatee County executed a Local Cooperation Agreement with the Department of the Army, whereas the County could receive a credit for its' share of project costs for shore protection projects.
On September 21, 2015, Manatee County submitted a credit request to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the amount of $1,503,367.38 for the time frame of July 2002 through May 2015 for the 2002 and 2013 Nourishment projects. The U.S. Army Corps determined that the July 2002 project was eligible for payment of $263,713.05. Payment was received by the County in February 2016.
Beach Nourishment projects are cost shared with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) at a 50/50 cost share rate. Since Manatee County had received 50% funding from FDEP for the nourishment project, then a portion of the payment from the U.S. Army Corps should be repaid to FDEP.
FDEP has reviewed the credit from the U.S. Army Corps and has determined that $131,390.61 (49.82%) should be repaid to them. County staff agrees with this determination. Manatee County's share is $132,322.44 (50.18%).
Manatee County may in the future receive additional credit payments from the U.S. Army Corps for other nourishment projects.
