Background Discussion
The West Coast Inland Navigation District (WCIND) conducts dredging projects on behalf of Manatee County on eligible waterways.  WCIND was asked to conduct a preliminary survey of Trailer Estates entrance channel to determine if dredging was needed and provided $27,923 for this task.

The preliminary survey indicated that 351 Cubic Yards of material  needed to be removed. Construction was delayed in an attempt to reduce costs by combining this project with the recent Flamingo Kay dredging.  Based on a pre-construction survey, the amount of material needing to be removed has increased to 650 Cubic Yards thereby increasing the cost by an estimated $25,000. WCIND is also looking into the cause of this increase in material.

Staff recommends that WCIND be authorized to spend an additional $25,000 on the Trailer Estates dredging bringing the total estimated cost to $52,923.
