Adopt Proclamation designating June 8, 2017, as "World Oceans Day" in Manatee County, Florida.
A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans. We are requesting the adoption of a proclamation declaring June 8, 2017, as World Oceans Day to identify and acknowledge the importance of the World's Oceans, and to set the precedent for honoring the Ocean's role in Manatee County as a source of food, transportation, and recreation.
To celebrate World Oceans Day, Manatee County's Parks and Natural Resources Department is hosting the first annual World Oceans Day Festival at Emerson Point Preserve. On Saturday June 3, 2017, from 9 am to 12 pm visitors will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of Ocean related topics. Along with representatives from numerous community organizations, including Save Our Seabirds, Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch, and Save the Manatee, staff will provide activities, demonstrations, and speakers to teach about the Oceans.
