Enabling/Regulating Authority
Resolution R-07-183, adopted by the Board February 1, 2008

Background Discussion

This Resolution (R 15-70) and ITS Policy will supersede Resolution (R 07-183), and consolidate various existing policies into one master IT Policy.  Technology advancements and a desire on the part of the business to leverage technology to enhance services are the key reasons for this policy change.  The new policy provides for the protection of information assets and a clear direction for employees to follow in using these assets.  Key provisions of the policy include the following:

Personal accountability for access controls ... Use of private county Internet services ... Messaging - Email / Instant Messaging / Texting ... Approval of Devices ... Mobile Device Management ... Non-Exempt mobile usage during approved business hours ... Sensitive information - Health / Law Enforcement / Personal ... Electronic media storage.

In summary, the advancement in technology along with this policy can enable our knowledge workers and mobile workforce while being mindful of the potential risks and exposure through continuing education and personal accountability.
