This agenda item reflects and reports on the first year of Manatee County Community Paramedic Program operations, program hurdles, successes, and future opportunities.
- The Board of County Commissioners recognized and funded Community Paramedicine in the FY17 Budget as a permanent program.
- The Community Paramedicine program has primarily assisted medically vulnerable patient populations in the following categories:
- Mental Health & Substance Abuse
- Congestive Heart Failure & patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
- Frequent Falls
- Frequent utilizers of the 911 and countywide hospital systems
To date, the program has saved an estimated $202,000 in healthcare spending dollars.
Manatee County’s Community Paramedic Program has been recognized by the State as a model system and has presented implementation strategies and program operations at several regional and statewide meetings.
The demand for our services continues to grow daily. Currently the demand for services outweighs our available resources.
The Manatee County Community Paramedic Program has collaborated and integrated with several large healthcare services within the County, including MCR Health Services, Manatee Memorial, Florida Department of Health-Manatee, Centerstone, LECOM, Turning Points, WeCare, Bradenton Cardiology, VA Clinic, and many others.
