Update Manatee and Sarasota County Commissioners regarding planning between counties in regards to greenways / multi-use paths and the designation of the Florida Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail Network being planned by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
The SUNTrail Network is authorized under 339.81, F.S.
Both Manatee and Sarasota Counties have master plans for their greenways / multi-use paths. Staff from the respective counties regularly communicate planning efforts and projects.
FDOT's SUNTrail Network is a statewide system of paved non-motorized trails and a component of the Florida Greenways and Trails System (FGTS), which is being planned by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). FDEP will have specific funding opportunities for the SUNTrail network.
The current SUNTrail is proposed to go through western Sarasota and Manatee Counties. However, the original alignment through Manatee is no longer feasible. Staff will discuss efforts and opportunities associated with the SUNTrail.
