At its regular meeting on May 24, 2016, the Board of County Commissioners approved the advertising of a public hearing for proposed Ordinance 16-08, regarding offensive noise. Proposed Ordinance 16-08, if adopted, will serve to amend Chapter 2-21 of the Manatee County Code.
Later in the same Board meeting, pursuant to a 5 to 2 vote, the Board instructed the Office of the County Attorney to hold off on advertising the Ordinance until the Board could conduct a work session on the subject. The requested work session occurs today.
The County Attorney's Office will lead the discussions, to include a discussion of the infirmities that are inherent in the existing ordinance as dictated by various court decisions.
It is anticipated that representatives of the Sheriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office and County Code Enforcement will be present for the work session to provide additional input, as deemed necessary. Note that the newly-proposed Ordinance is a product of significant vetting as among all of the listed entities.
Copies of the current Ordinance and the newly-proposed Ordinance are attached.
