Background Discussion

This Work Session is provided at the request of the Board of County Commissioners from the November 28, 2017, regular meeting. This request was made following the approval of the Armor, Inc., jail medical services 6th Contract Amendment approval.

Florida Statutes mandates counties to fund healthcare costs in their local jails.

Work Session Discussion is to Include:

  1. County Jail Census
  2. Introduction to Regulatory Compliance
  3. Inmate Medical Demography
  4. Internal and External Medical Expenses
  5. Statewide Initiatives for joint quality improvement and cost containment

Joint oversight of jail medical services is shared between the Manatee County Sheriff's Office (Kaufmann and Jones) and the Neighborhood Services Department's Division of Community Services (Barnett and Miralla-Ramirez).  

Jail medical services are procured through a competitive bid process.
