  • Execution of three (3) originals of the Second Amendment to Lease with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Background Discussion
  • On August 8, 1978, Manatee County and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles entered into a Lease Agreement for two parcels of land for the purpose of constructing, operating, and maintaining a Florida Highway Patrol facility.
  • On July 10, 1990, an Amendment to Lease was executed to release a portion of the land to provide access to the Braden River Library. In exchange, the County would construct an impound lot for the exclusive use of the Florida Highway Patrol.
  • On February 27, 2017, staff met with representatives of the Florida Highway Patrol to discuss relinquishing approximately 6.5 acres of the leased land in exchange for the relocation and construction of a larger impound lot to be located directly behind the Florida Highway Patrol facility.
  • An agreement to amend the lease was proposed.
  • The amendment allows the County to use the relinquished area of land for future expansion of the Braden River Library and provide additional parking for Braden River Park, and provides the Florida Highway Patrol a larger and more accessible impound lot.
  • The total lease area under the amendment will consist of approximately 1.97 acres.
  • The estimated cost to construct the new impound lot is $50,000.00.
