Enabling/Regulating Authority

Resolution R-17-037, previously adopted for implementation of spay and neuter program.

Ordinance 12-10

Background Discussion

The Board of County Commissioners has determined the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats is the most cost-effective method of animal control for Manatee County.

The Board of County Commissioners previously adopted Resolution R-17-037 updating the established Manatee County Spay and Neutering Program for cats and dogs.

The new resolution, R-18-010, reflects the following changes:

  • Page 2, Paragraph 2, provides for spay/neuter services and allows owners to submit documentation to vendor to demonstrate the owner qualifications for one of the described programs listed in the resolution.
  • Page 2, Paragraph 3,  allows for no more than a total of two (2) animals per person per year, to be paid under the program; previously adopted resolution states per family, however, there are multifamily households that need assistance as well.
  • Page 2, Paragraph 4, allows for veterinarians serving Manatee County residents to qualify.
