Authorization to execute an Interlocal Agreement between Manatee County and the Town of Longboat Key for law enforcement services on Greer Island, and adoption of Budget Amendment B-18-059.
F.S.S. Chapter 125-County Government
One of the items discussed at the Joint Meeting between the Manatee Board of County Commissioners and the Town of Longboat Key on February 27, 2018, was issues related to the county-owned land at the north end of Longboat Key known as Greer Island (aka Beer Can Island).
County staff has worked with staff from the Town of Longboat Key to develop an interlocal agreement for the County to provide funding for Town law enforcement officers to patrol Greer Island for a trial period of six months.
The County will provide funding to the Town of $5,000 per month to assist with the cost of providing waterside and landside law enforcement services for Greer Island.
The Town of Longboat Key shall provide the County with monthly incident reports to track all arrests, citations, tickets, etc.
Budget Amendment B-18-059 appropriates $30,000 for the six month trial period from the Board's Reserve for Contingency.
Future funding is contingent upon the County Commission's annual budgeting process and appropriation of funds.
