Manatee County seeking Special Magistrate applicants

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (July 29, 2021) – Manatee County is accepting applicants for vacancies for four Special Magistrates, volunteer positions who hear and decide alleged violations of Manatee’s Land Development Code and Code of Ordinances, imposing fines against the violators.

All Manatee County residents may apply for any of the volunteer positions. Special Magistrates are usually attorneys, retired judges, paralegals, and others with a legal background and/or law experience. The new Special Magistrate appointees will fill four-year terms which expire in October 2025. Special Magistrates serve on a volunteer basis. A full list of qualifications for Special Magistrates can be found in the County's Code of Ordinances Chapter 2-7-21.

The Special Magistrate typically holds hearings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the first floor Patricia M. Glass Commission Chambers of the Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave., W., Bradenton.
